They use digital apps to access to services; buy food and basic goods through digital payment solutions; and benefit from government digital systems that efficiently run hospitals, water and power networks, and public transport.\n\nBut for every action there is a reaction. For digital transformation, it is data.\n\nAs more and more people enter into the digital realm, the amount of data generated is enormous (up to 3.5 quintillion bytes each day). Yet, across the world, especially in low-income countries, people are unable to meaningfully benefit from the information they produce.\n\nThis phenomenon is known as the data divide.\n\nTo successfully bridge this gap, we must ensure that digital transformation – and the data it generates – are harnessed to serve individuals and communities. People everywhere can benefit from the power of data and digital technology, but it must be thoughtfully designed – and implemented – to prioritize their needs, aspirations, and wellbeing.","exclusions_policy_url":"","first_publication_date":"2026-03-06T15:45:00+00:00","hq_country":"US","organisation_identifier":"US-EIN-27-0915757","organisation_type":"21","region":"998","reporting_source_type":"primary_source","website":"https://dial.global/about-the-digital-impact-alliance/our-vision-and-mission/"}
